England vs Pakistan 2nd T20I Live at Dubai 25 Feb, 2012

Following their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of England in the ODI series, Pakistan came up with a refreshing performance in the opening T20I to silence some of their critics and they will look to continue in the same fashion in the remaining two matches. England, meanwhile, will consider the loss in the 1st T20 to be an one-off and will look to put the pressure back on Pakistan like they did in the 50-over games.

Pakistan: Misbah-ul-Haq came in for a lot of criticism after the ODI series loss but he did remarkably well as captain in the opening 20-over game to help Pakistan go 1-0 up. Misbah's captaincy skills were not at their best in the 4-match ODI series, but in the Twenty20 match, he maneuvered his resources well, using the right bowlers at the right time and placing the fields correctly.

The Pakistan skipper would also be happy with the performance of his bowlers, who came up with an inspired show to prevent England from reaching the target. Umar Gul found form with the ball and ended up as the highest wicket taker of the match as well as the Man of the Match. His spell of 3/18 in 4 overs brought Pakistan back into the game when England were comfortably placed to chase down the target of 145. Mohammad Hafeez was also good with the ball, picking up a couple of important wickets. Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal also hit the right line and lengths, and despite not picking up too many wickets, they maintained a good economy rate. Junaid Khan is probably the only concern for Misbah in the bowling department as the left-armer was taken for a plenty of runs. However, the seamer did bowl a tight last over when England required 17 to win. Overall, it was a good show by the Pakistan bowlers and the captain will be expecting the same from them if not better in the upcoming matches.

The main worry for Misbah lies with the batting department as the batters, similar to their performance in the ODIs, got off to starts but could not capitalize and lost wickets in a heap. Debutant Awais Zia looked good for the short while that he was out at the middle and so did Hafeez and Asad Shafiq, but they could not carry forward. Afridi has not been much of a success with the bat of late and he did not help Pakistan's cause either. It looked as though Pakistan would end up with a below par total, but Misbah got good support from Shoaib Malik and the pair put on a good stand to ensure that a competitive total was achieved. Going into the second Twenty20 match, the captain will be hoping for a collective performance from his batsmen as Pakistan seek a series victory.

Team News: Pakistan might not think of many changes to their eleven although the form of Junaid Khan is still a concern. If they do decide to replace him, Pakistan have the option of bringing in either Wahab Riaz or Aizaz Cheema.

England: Looking at England's performance in the opening match, it can be said that they were good only in particular stages of the game but could not deliver in the crucial stages. Stuart Broad has not captained England in too many games in the shorter format and is still in his formative years as skipper. His inexperience clearly showed as he did not go for the kill when Pakistan were five down for 73.

The England bowlers had a mixed outing in the first T20 with some of them giving away a lot of runs. Steven Finn was the most expensive of the lot, ending up with an economy rate of more than 9 an over while Jade Dernbach and Samit Patel gave away more than 7 an over. Graeme Swann was the pick of the bowlers, scalping three wickets as well as maintaining a good economy. The skipper also was on the mark with the ball, although he did not have any wickets to speak for his efforts. As mentioned earlier, it was a mixed-bag performance by the English side and going into the 2nd T20I, Broad will be hoping that the bowlers deliver the kind of performance that they put in during the ODI series - keeping a sustained attack on the Pakistani batsmen.

As far as England's batting goes, it is pretty much an inexperienced line-up barring the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Ravi Bopara. Craig Kieswetter and Eoin Morgan have played quite a few games for England but they are vulnerable against a quality spin attack as seen in the opening T20I. When Pietersen and Bopara were at the middle, they seemed at ease while handling the quicks as well as the spinners. Kieswetter too looked good at the beginning but he struggled against the likes of Hafeez and Ajmal while Morgan was clearly uncomfortable and his poor run in the tour continued. While Pietersen and Bopara are able if not proficient in handling the turners, England's youngsters like Kieswetter, Morgan, Bairstow and Buttler need to find a solution to counter them.

Team News: Stuart Broad will be a confused skipper after the opening T20I. Alastair Cook was roped into the T20 squad and his experience will without doubt help England if he is included in the eleven. But the team's strategy is to give youngsters more opportunity, especially in the shorter formats as they look to build towards the World T20 later this year. Hence the dilemma for Broad and coach Andy Flower, who have to think about the right combination for the next game.
